VB 6.0 - unfortunately too many jobs require this

Hello -

I have noticed that there are a lot of jobs in my area that require VB 6.0,
which I took a class in a long time ago. All I have is a student version of
same. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap copy of Visual Basic 6.0
Professional and if that is the best version to use?

Also, is there a microsoft user group for same that is frequented often?

Sandy,

This is not a VB6 newsgroup.

The newsgroup

microsoft.public.vb.general.discussion seems for me an excelent newsgroup to
ask this question, I am sure that there are more who can give you the best
advice.

In addition to the other replies: VB6 is not sold any more. It's still
part of an MSDN subscription, but MSDN subscriptions are costly compared to
a license for VB6 only. You may want to look at eBay, sometimes VB6 is sold
there. However, make sure that you buy the complete package including
handbook and original CDs. The CDs must not have been part of an MSDN
subscription.

"microsoft.public.vb.*".

Don't feel bad Sandy, I had a recruiter call me the other day. Asked me how
much vb.net experience I had...3 years....How much vb experience(I about
choked on my soda). I told him a year....Ok, well Ill send you a packet.....

If I had to look at vb6 code I could read it and know what it wanted to
do(mostly I think) but If I had to write it? fagetaboutit....Its might as
well be sufi.....

I think most of those(at least the ones I have seen) want someone who can
come in and convert their vb6 apps to .net either through C# or
vb.net(mostly c# for whatever reason)...
