Variables in Backup

Is there a way to use variables in backup set or media names, so when I back up to tape nightly on a schedule, they don't all have the same name. This is using the NTBackup utility that comes with Windows 2000 Professional. I have tried using %d and $d for date and %t and $t for time and neither worked. Please help.

I guess that you are running it from the GUI? Try running it from a
batch file. Have a look at the script towards the bottom of this
reference. It might give you some ideas.

You could try %d% for the date and %t% for the time. If this does
not work then copy the whole command line into a batch file, as
suggested by Enkidu, and use these same variables there.
