Vanishing Memory Mystery

-- I'm not able to track down a large humk of memory that seems to be
missing all of a sudden. (6.5Gig)Heres what I have done.
I went to the 'c'drive listed in "Windows Explorer" and looked at each
entry under that catagory. The btrekdown is as foowows:

Total drive capability: 18.63 gig

Docauments and Settings: 1.26 gig

Program files: 3.2 gig

Windows: 2.62 gig

Mis: 1.0 gig

Total 8.08gig

System Restore Space 2.29 gig

Current Avalable free spsce: 1.62 gig

Total Space Accounted for: 1.62+2.29 +8.08=11.99gig gig

Initial Disk Space Minus Space Accounted for is: 18.63gig- 11.99=6.64gig

Missing Memory Space is: 6.64 gig

My question is:Where in heavens name is it?Is this the proper way to track
it down? And if so what did I miss?
Are there "Hidden files"Which I don't know about?Or has something happened
to the computer?

Suggestions and comments would be welcome,

Thanks,

robert

Memory is RAM. You're referring to storage or drive space. And Yes there
is a lot of "hidden files and system folders" that you don't see. You
also happen to be using "Norton protected recycle bin"?

It's Irish math. Ignore it.

Yes ,I'm talking about "C"Drive storage space. But you mentioned Norton.I
haven't had Norton installed for at least 3 years. however, when my e-mail
comes in it always says "scanned with Norton Anti-Virus" but aa system search
shows no evidence of Norton.Lets leave that problem for another time.
In any event, How doI find my misssing C drive storage space?

YOU ARE confusing memory with hard disk space.

Memory defindition:

Internal storage areas in the computer. The term memory identifies data
storage that comes in the form of chips, and the word storage is used for
memory that exists on tapes or disks. Moreover, the term memory is usually
used as a shorthand for physical memory, which refers to the actual chips
capable of holding data. Some computers also use virtual memory, which
expands physical memory onto a hard disk.
