Valued Customer Files

I cannot delete these because XP says they are system files. My startup menu
and other files like favorites go here rather than to my user name files -
I'm a single user on my home network and I'd just like to rid myself the
interference of this - even My Documents comes up in the startup menu blank
because it does not recognize My Documents files under my user name - instead
it uses the Valued Customer. This is driving me crazy; how to solve this?

I'm guessing that you changed the generic user name that came with the
computer - "Valued Customer" to your own name without creating your own,
new user account. Simply changing the profile name is a cosmetic change
only; it doesn't change any of the underlying profile files/folders.

If my guess is correct, then you need to rename your user account (Control
Panel>User Accounts) back to "Valued Customer" and create your own user
account. Before we go further, please navigate to:

My Computer>Documents and Settings

With the Documents and Settings window open, post back what you see.
