Using (ZoneAlarm - FireWall) on Windows XP pro./Thru DSL conn.

Hi

- Using (ZoneAlarm - FireWall) on Windows XP pro./Thru DSL conn.

- Screen Saver is activated, wait time is 30 minutes.

- ZoneAlarm Program control/Automatic Lock/ Custom Lock settings is set to:
Lock when screensaver activates.

- I'm connected to the Internet, and 2 Programs are running, I go away from my desk
for 40 minutes, When I return I find that I'm no longer connected to the Internet, and
those 2 running programs are disconnected too.

- My question is: Is there any Advanced settings that I could apply to my 'ZoneAlarm Firewall' to keep
me Connected even when above settings : The Screen Saver, and The Custom Lock Settings apply and
remain in place ?? (If Possible)

- What are the recommanded settings for: Firewall/Internet Zone Security, FireWall Trusted Zone Security,
and The "Advanced" settings in that Page Or in any other Setting Page that could be applied to (in My Case) ??

- I read The ZoneAlarm - FireWall Help Page ,, and I've got confused..

Any Easy Does It, Step by Step Help Would Be appreciated.

Thanks
Nancy

If you are downloading files and need to stay connected,
just change the ZA lock setting to set the program you want
to "pass lock" this is an option in my free version of ZA.
Open the ZA panel, program control main, click the custom
button and set the firewall to allow pass lock. Then go to
the program window and click the padlock column for the item
you want to pass.

Ji
hi
My Original settings were:(with Correction
Before
- Screen Saver is activated, wait time is 30 minutes
1 - ZoneAlarm Program control/Automatic Lock/ Custom Lock settings/Lock mode to use when enabled is set to:
Lock when screensaver activates
2 - ZoneAlarm Program control/Automatic Lock/ Custom Lock settings/When Lock Engages is set to
Block All Internet Connection
---------------------------------------------
Now
- I kept Number 1 the way It Is
- I Changed Number 2 from: Block All Internet Connections To Allow Pass-Lock Programs To Access The Internet
But
- What You Mean By:"Then go to the program window and click the padlock column for the item you want to pass." ?
- Would You Plase Explain to me Step By Step / Click By Click What Does That Mean ?
And
- When I get Back to My Pc and (Resume from screen Saver) and I log on my User Name, I must go first to : Local Area Connection and I must click on Repair to regain connection to the Internet !
- So What kind of settings I shall Do To Keep MY DSL : Local Area Connection, Connected to the Internet During the time that screen Saver becomes active and the 30 minutes wait time Expires while Iam away?

Thank
Nancy

There is a list of all the programs that have tried to
connect to the Internet in Program Control on the Programs
tab. You will see a green check mark if you have allowed a
connection always, a blue ? if ZA is to ask each time and a
red X if you have said always NO. There is a column just to
the right of those items, left click in the column where the
selected program is below the little yellow padlock icon,
and the menu will present you the option to allow that
program to pass through the general system lock.

I do not know why you must "repair" your DSL connection when
logging on from the screensaver, perhaps somebody else can
help with that issue.

Just apply the passlock to those programs that you need to
run while the computer is unattended, your download manager
for instance. Certainly you do not need email or IM
programs while you are not seated and working. If you check
all the programs, why bother with the passlock?

Only you know exactly what programs you want to pass the
lock. The point of the lock is to block hackers getting in
and Trojans getting out.

| Hi again
| Finally I've Got It
| It's a left click,, and not a right click in last
column under the lock (in Programs)
| I was alaways trying to use the right click
| Well Thank You.
| But one more thing to ask: Do I have to apply the 'Pass
Lock' for all listed programs??
| I mean if I want only these programs to stay connected :
Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Aol, and Sbc-DSL-Yahoo.
| And If Iam Downloading from the Internet while Iam away..
My Question is : Should I Apply Pass Lock To All of Them ??
and which program is my: DSL Local area Connection That I
should Apply the Pass lock to keep me connected to the
Internet ?? I don't see Local Area Connection !! what I see
Is : boltintracopy.exe ,( This one has No Product name Nor a
Version.!!! I dont know what is it !!! lol@me) and I also
see : Generic Host Pro... ( Product name: Microsoft .
Windows. Operating System, Version: 5.1.2600.0) But
There is No Local Area Connection !!
| Please Reply in This Thread. And Make It Easy Step By Step
Becase Im kind of slow Headed lolz@me.
| Thanks
