Using word 2007 reference features

Hello...

I am writing a report and am trying to use the reference tab in Word 2007 to
complete my works cited list. However, many of the options in the tab are
greyed out, such as the "Manage Sources", "Style" and "Bibliography" buttons
(among others).

I have searched the help file and the internet but I can't seem to find a
guide that explains why this is happening, or how to activate these features
so that I can create my works cited list.

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi Eric,

Are you using the 60 day trial edition of MS Office or a previous, beta version? If the 60 day trial did you previously have a beta
edition installed?

If you start a new blank document are the features still blanked out?

If you start Word 2007 while holding the ctrl key, do you get the same behavior.

Hi Eric,

To add one bit to the previous questions if you're using the release product and have run
'Office Button=>Prepare=>Mark as Final'
that will turn off the ability to edit the document and will grey out most of the 'References' tab.

On the status bar at the bottom of the screen look for the 'Mark as Final' icon ( a tiny page with a rubber stamp that says 'final'
on it). If it's there use
'Office Button=>Prepare=>Mark as Final
again to unmark the document.

Hi Bob,

I am using the beta version of Office 2007, with the technical refresh
installed (I believe...) I have never installed the 60 day trial version (I
didn't even know it existed until now).

The options are stilled greyed out if I start a new document, or open Word
in safe mode. The document(s) are not marked as final.

Thanks for your help so far!

If you hit Office button menu, Convert (if the options exists), are the
things still grayed out then?

Patrick,

Yes, the options are still greyed out even if I'm working with a converted
Word 2007 file.
