using shortcut keys

how can i create a short-cut key for a minus sign a plus
sing and a check mark. i dont want to have to alway go
into insert symbol to insert these symbols.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure that NumLock is on and use the keys on your numeric keypad for the
minus and plus sign.

What do you mean by the check mark? What does that look like?
