Using Remote Desktop with IP address or DNS name

Did anyone get Remote Desktop to work with IP address or DNS name as
computer name? Each side of the client and server is gated by a Linksys
router. Went through opening port 3389 and registering with dyndns.org to
get dynamic dns name. Still, can't get dynamic dns like something.dyndns.org
or 1.2.3.4 or 1.2.3.4:3389 to be accepted as valid computer name. Any help
is appreciated.

Some things to check (some of these are obvious but I'll put them anyway):
You need to not only open port 3389 but also to route packets coming into
3389 to your machine's private IP.
You need to enable remote connections (control panel-system-remote
something).
You need to register you public IP address with your ddns, not your private
ip.

If you've got all of that then it should work.
