Using RDC causes svcost to use high CPU time...

Hey!

Have this strange problem with my xp machine...( its a brand new H/w with 2 LAN cards one for LAN and one for DSL connection )

Every time I use Remote Desktop connection ( even if I just start the ui and close it ) to connect to my remote servers...the svchost service starts taking almost 90+ CPU time, in spite of me closing down the RDC.
If I terminate it , I get a system shutdown prompt which stays for 1 minute and then machine restarts...however, if I use shutdown -a at command prompt it goes away, but then the system is not stable enough for usage...
Also, RPC and Messenger service needs to be restarted...

This was not the case earlier when I used to use RDC...it only started coming up about a week ago after I upgraded my H/W except the HDD, plugged in the old HDD in to the new HDD and repaired the XP OS.

Could someone please help me resolve this issue...

What Service Pack version do you have installed?

Also, when you said you updated your hardware, did this also include
the motherboard? If so, how different are the two different systems?
You may still have lingering issues with the new setup.

Also take a look at

you can trap which process is hanging the system.
