Using paragraph border with a multilevel list

I having problems using paragraph borders with a multi-level list in Word 2000. I would like to make a multilevel list with a paragpraph border than remains uniform (like a box) around the text. When I go from one level of my list to the next level, which is indented, a new border is formed, which is also indented. Is there any way to do this easily?

Method 1: put the list in a text box or frame, and put the border around
that.

Method 2: create the entire list with no border. Then select the list and go
to Format > Borders.
