Using Overlays

I was just reading about using overlays in MM and it sounds like an
interesting idea. However, when I try to drag my png to the overlay part of
the timeline, it stops dead in the video section and won't go where I want
it.

Could someone explain to me simply how to use overlays over images? Or can
they only be over transitions?

you need a custom xml file to have the overlay show up in your picklist of
choices in title animations.... see the Editing > the Persian Page of my
website.

Well, I don't want it over the titles. I want it over part of the clip.
Actually, yesterday, after I posted the question, I accidentally
accomplished it. Now, if I can remember what I did! LOL
I put the png between two clips with a transition on either side and kind of
dragged it over the clip. Wound up with a big fingerprint on top of the
clip. Now, if I can do it again....

This should work with any png I decide to create, right?
