Using Outlook and Outlook Web Access together

I'm a long time user of the Outlook client in my office but get fed up
with having to dial in to our network via a 56k modem to get access to
my e-mail whan I am working at home. I was therefore delighted to
find that I can have Outlook Web Access enabled so that I can grab my
e-mail on my separate home machine via my broadband connection to the
net.

Well the OWA was enabled today and a number of questions arise which
folk may be able to help me with...

- This afternoon I processed and then deleted a number of messages
using full Outlook in the office. Tonight however these messages
still appear on OWA. How come?

- OWA does not seem to be picking up my personal contacts, diary and
personal folders from the Exchange server. Should it be doing this or
would I need to set up a whole new diary, contacts book etc for my OWA
world? (I won't be doing this as my contacts number some 2000!)

- I suppose the wider question here is does Exchange synchronize what
is presented in my full Outlook client and my OWA account? If so,
does it do this on the fly or just once a day or what?

If I can get this thing configured the way I need it there are a few
thousand other users around here who will find this a godsend. Or am
I being over optimistic?

OWA provides a browser interface to your exchange mailbox and changes should
be visible in the mailbox when you check it using Outlook. Are you using a
pst, cached mode (Ol2003) or the mailbox as the default store? If the
mailbox, changes should be visible almost immediately in outlook, it takes a
bit longer if using cached mode (a few min) and it's never synced if you use
a pst instead of the mailbox.

It can only access the server mailbox- not personal folders etc which are
stored on a workstation.

Not sure which of these methods is in use but I will find out and, if
possible, get it changed to the mailbox option.

Can I just clarify your comment about personal folders et al. I am
clear that personal folders won't be visible in OWA but should I be
able to see the same calendar and contacts book that the client based
version does? Should I be able to set up group meetings using shared
calendars and should I be able to see our Global address book?

Much thanks for your timely response.

As long as the Exchange mailbox is the delivery location specified in the
Outlook client, that client and OWA will see the same mailbox calendar and
contact folders. Public folders will also be available in either, but it
doesn't look like shared folders or favorites are available. The GAL is
available in OWA, but not as a list you can scroll through, as far as I can
tell. In Outlook, clicking the Address Book icon in the toolbar brings up a
scrollable GAL. The same icon in OWA brings up an address book search into
which you need to enter some part of the contact's information in order to
find that contact.
