using one disk but another regn number

I have a new laptop preinstalled with XP Home SP2. I have my own XP Pro
Upgrade license, but it is not SP2. My wife has a Pro upgrade disk with Sp2
which she is using on her laptop already

Can I use her disk to upgrade my laptop, but then activate it with my own
key ?

You can use your wife's CD with your Product Key.

Thanks. I also need to clarify, my key is being used on my old machine at
present (it was used to upgrade an OEM XP Home)
since I am moving to a new computer, I know I am entitled to reuse it. But
is there any extra step to properly activate it ?

One note on this however....

I recently replaced the HD in someone's computer. He did not have the
original restore disk, so I had to use a different copy of XP Home OEM to
install. It was a Compaq that originally came with XP Home on it.

Using the key from the sticker on the case, I was able to get it to install
properly, but activation over the internet failed. I then needed to phone
in activation.

I had no problem though, just a PITA to have to call M$.
