Using NTBackup

Hello,

I use NTBackup to backup files to a tape drive. I deleted a tape
catalog in the list in the Restore tab. How to I re-catalog the tape? I
tried deleting all files in the catalog folder (C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\App Data\Microsoft\NTBackup\catalogs)
but that did not work.

Thanks,
Scallica

I'm using Windows XP right now so its backup program might be slightly
different. As I recall, you have to start the backup program and select
the Restore tab. Then the Tools menu has the option enabled where you
can scan a backup tape to include its files in a catalog.

In Win 2000, the only Catalog function in the Tools menu is "Catalog a
backup file..."

Which would be on your backup tape(s). I've never bothered using the
crippled backup program that Microsoft dumps in their NT versions of
Windows. I know in other backup programs that you have to rebuild the
file list of backed up files by having the program rescan the backup
tape(s).

Or are you instead asking how to wipe out the old catalog of backed up
files to start afresh and now want to add tapes to the backup program's
tape pool? I would think initializing the tape would do that.
