using MS DNS with Netware 4.11

Anyone know of a good white paper or doc that will explain how to use
Microsofts DNS service in conjuntion with a Novell 4.11 server.

I want to drop IPX and go full IP.

nw411 speaks tcpip, but ncp only works via ipx/spx.

How many user network do you have?

I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 100 USERS HERE

Currently the Novell box is running ipx only I want to enable tcp/ip on it
and drop the ipx protocol. I already am running a dhcp server on the
Microsoft side of things I was hoping to make the clients get there slp info
and other Novell requirements for the Novell clients settings from the
Microsoft dhcp server.

My microsoft side is all 2000 with DHCP and DNS enabled .

Hope this makes sense.

4.11 *MUST* have IPX. You remove it, no Novell.
4.11 can use TCPIP *in addition to* IPX, for your MS stuff.

You want TCPIP only, go to Novell 5 or 6

not the way i read it

The NetWare/IP server replaces the IPX/SPX protocol stack with the TCP/IP
protocol stack while continuing to use the same Link Support Layer(tm)
(LSL(tm)) driver and Open Data-Link Interface(tm) (ODI(tm)) driver as a
traditional NetWare server. The NetWare/IP server NetWare Loadable
Module(tm) (NLM(tm)), NWIP.NLM, provides IPX emulation using the NetWare/IP
protocol over the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the User Datagram
Protocol (UDP). Thus, NetWare services and applications run identically on
the NetWare/IP server to the way they run in the IPX environment.

"nwip" is something you wont have any support from me on :), i never used it
before. You can check out the 4.x support forums on
news://support-forums.novell.com, & other resources like google &
#novell@efnet.

100 users? then i recommend the small business suite 6.5 from novell, it
does 100 users, & you get the full version of the netware6.5 server(dns is
bind9x & all sort of other sweet things like iFolder/netstorage/etc),
groupwise 6.5 (with IM), zenworks 4, bordermanager 3.8 & some other stuff.
Pure ip, no need for ipx

Thanks Keith

Unfortunately I'm having to migrate away from Novell.
We no longer can justife two network OS's . I may just have to continue
running IPX until we finish our database conversions.

Once again thank you for you help
