Using dropdown lists in a database

I want to set up a database from which I can create Pivot Tables and
graphs,and use Lookups.
In the database I would like to use dropdown lists, but I can't work
out if or how you can use any of the above with a dropdown list as
they "float" above the cells.
I have tried reading various books but can't find out if what I want
to do is possible.
I am not conversant with VBA, but am fairly proficient wih Pivot
Tables and Lookups.
Any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated.

You obviously know how to create a drop down list, and
I'm not clear on the question...Can you send the file to
