Using common peripherals on desktop and laptop?

Hi,
I want to be able to share monitor, mouse, keyboard and printer between personal home desktop and work laptop, is there a cunning way to be able to do so without haing to unplug everything to swap over? Is there some sort of USB/DVI/VGA switching box type thing available that will make it a simpler process? Its unlikely will be wanting to use both simultaniously, if I did then I guess using laptop as intended and monitor etc connected to desktop is best way. Any ideas?

sorry, by "as intended" I meant open, using its own monitor/screen and touchpad...
