Using Clipart

I am struggling to help a friend who is trying to prepare documents using
clip art imported from a CD rom. We can`t seem to be able to put the clip
art anywhere in the document other than left, middle or right of the page.
She needs to be able to move the clipart anywhere on the page and text wrap
around some of it too. I am a total newbie to this side of computing so
haven`t been much help to her.

Any tips in layman`s terms would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Maureen.

What version of Word are you using? Some menu commands are different
among Word 6.0, Word 97, and Word 2000-2003. I'm assuming you have one
of the newer versions.

The inserted clipart is probably formatted as inline-with-text. If you
left click once on a clipart image, there are eight handles that pop up
around the image. If the handles are black, then the image is inline,
and if the handles are white, then the image is wrapped. If you want to
be able to move the image anywhere on the page, then you have to make it
wrapped. To do this, right click once on the image, then left click on
Format Picture or Format Object | Layout | <select square, tight, behind
text, or in front of text> | OK. Now you should be able to drag the
image to any position on the page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I am visiting my pal on Monday so will try the above
and see how we get on.

Like the name by the way. I have a Garfield sitting on my computer monitor
looking down at me just now. LOL.

Here is an easy way to move clip art anywhere you want. Insert clip into your document. When you select it a narrow box appears in the top right. Click on the dog and then click on In Front of Text. A 4 pointed star appears in the clip which will let you move the clip around.
