using a search code in internet explorer

Some time ago, I use to be able to type the letter g followed by an item to
look for, into the address bar on my task bar and it would do a Google
search and open up a search page. I have lost this ability and would like to
know what I need to do. I am using WinXP Home, SP2 and the latest IE. I have
it working on my laptop but can't get it to work again on my desktop.
What I have done so far:
Start TweakUIXP, go to Internet Explorer>Search and create "g",
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&num=100&q=%s. This is the same address
that I have working on my laptop. I select apply and OK out of TweakUIxp.
Then I reboot the computer and it still doesn't work. As an example, if I
type g skeleton in the address bar I get a page cannot be displayed window.
If I type the same in the Google search window, it will open a search window
just fine. Just an annoyance I can't seem to solve. I would appreciate some
ideas about this. Thanks.

Wes, I already have the Google tool bar in place but I still can't get it to
work. I have also sent an Email to Google but I am not anticipating an
answer any time soon. It has been over a week now. Appreciate your response.
Maybe I should delete the google tool bar and reinstall it.

Uninstall it and reinstall it.

Redownload it too before you reinstall, your download may have been funky.

They work on IE6 although Image List has to be refreshed.

They work on IE6 although Image List has to be refreshed.

Mine doesn't though the security bar has to be clicked.
