Using a crossover cable

R

Richard

I'm reformatting, and reinstalling windows 2000 pro on my
desktop. I need to transfer files (10 GB) to my laptop
(running win 2000 pro). I plan on using a crossover cable
to do this.

What do I need to do in order to accomplish this task
(user ID's, permissions...)?

Put the machines on the same subnet, such as 192.168.0.x or whatever you
use.

To make life easier, make them part of the same domain or workgroup.

If you're sitting at the new machine and "pulling" the files from the
old one, then make sure you know an account ID/password on the old
machine if/when you are prompted. Same applies in reverse if you're
"pushing" from the old machine to the new.
