Users sharing desktop icons

My computer is the family one, with two different user accounts. I use
programs that the other user never touches, and vice versa. When I delete a
shorcut icon on my desktop, it dissapears from the other user's as well, when
I add one, ect ect.... Is there a way to stop this "desktop sharing"? We're
both set to administator, and I'd like to keep it that way.

You need to use the appropriate Desktop folder:

1. Go to the Windows Orb (Start), type Shell:Common Desktop and press Enter
to display the Public Users desktop folder.

2. Go to the Windows Orb (Start), type Shell:Desktop and press Enter to open
your personal desktop folder.

Make a note of the different locations.

Hi loafaries,

These icons have probably been installed on the Public Desktop, which
enables them to be seen by all users on theirs. All you need to do is to move
them from the Public Desktop to the desktop(s) of the required user(s). They
can then be deleted from the Public Desktop and will no longer appear on the
desktop other than the one(s) that you place it on. This can also be used the
other way round, to allow all users access to a program that only places its
icons on a single user's desktop. See below for details of the location of
the desktop folders.

Path to Public Desktop:

C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop

Path to User's Desktop (<UserName> is the name of the user) :

C:\Users\<UserName>\Desktop
