userinit.exe error

K

kid

i windows xp home edition, when i start up the system it
asks me for a password to log on. when i enter the
password an error message appears called :(userinit.exe
application error (0xc000012d)it also said something
about the registration details were missing) because of
this i get into the system. But when i put the operating
system cd in and try to log in i can.

i think there's some files missing on my hard drive
(maybe some dll's) i was wondering if any one knew which
files these were ,so i can reinstall them and wont have
to put in the OS cd each time i start the computer.

Help would be very much appreciated

Go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Note that
there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow". You'll need your XP cd.
This will run the System File Checker to replace damaged or missing
system files.

REstore Point

Hi on this PC this answer is working but on the PC with the userinit.exe application error I am unable to get the start button at all. All I have is the desktop screen and no shortcuts or taskbar. Is there a way to run this scan task manager?

I have just used the task manager to browse to windows folder c drive and folder called restore and retored back 2 days to the last known good configuration and have successfully got my PC back. Ran the anti virus and healed a trojan so am happy to be back in the game.

Thanks

All I have is the desktop screen and no shortcuts or taskbar.
I have got exactly the same problem with the XP Professional.
that i can not access XP at all (Neither normal mode nor safe mode).

The message that i keep receiving is :
Code:
"userinit.exe- Application error"
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) Click on OK to terminate the application"

I tried this
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_wel_screen.htm
Place your XP CD in and navigate to the Recovery Console.
Change the C:\Windows prompt to: C:\Windows\System32 and copy userinit.exe to wsaupdater.exe

Reboot into Safe Mode and modify:

change userinit in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon from wsaupdater.exe, to userinit.exe,

Added info:

Recovering XP using the Recover Console (Line 333) Right hand side:
But it did not help, because i would not able to access the safe mode.

Any other insights

Please bear in mind that i can not access window at all, therefore I can not go online and scan the PC for virus or whatever other solutions that might be suggested

ok here is how you access the run command. when you can see anything on your screen.

click CTRL + ALT + DEL to get the task manager. then on the top left click on file and the new task. that will open the run command and from there you can access regedit and also execute the above command.

please say thank you if this helps you.
