User recommended region free DVD burner

Evan

Folks,

Any user recommendation for easily cracked DVD burners for the PC. I
have a large collection of Region 1 DVDs (all legit) that require a
region-free drive.

I'm partial to LG or Sony, two makes of PC optical drives that have
never let me down personally. Would prefer internal.

Thanks in advance.

While slightly older, it seems like the LG GSA-4163B is still the bees
knees of burners. I'll have to see if it's region free able

People usually go for Pioneer or NEC when it comes to DVD burners.

http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=2 will have links to region free
firmware.

You could use software on windows such as DVD Idle Pro.

I do use both software and have my drive region free patched (just
incase the software fails to run, I don't trust windows).

As you have posted also to a UK group, then I take it that means you are
OK with purchasing from within the UK.EU:

Just use AnyDVD with your existing drive. Brilliant piece of software that
does exactly what it says on the tin. :)

under device manager click on you dvd player, properties, you can change the
region code there. You can only do this a limited amount of times.

Once you find one, I'd recommend using Ripit4me - http://www.ripit4me.org/
to make your 'backups'. It utilises fixvts, so you can use dvdshrink + dvd
decrypter to get past any problems

5 times. That Sucks. The region coding is an anti-consumer tactic that
is slimy enough to actually DESERVE to be circumvented.

DVD Region+CSS Free enables you to watch & copy any
region-coded/CSS-encrypted/ARccOS-protected DVDs on any (including RPC-2)
DVD drives without flashing firmware.

I didn't realise this could be done via software.

Would still prefer to "crack" the drive.

The Pioneer DVR-111 is much talked about.

What's the difference between the 111, 111D, and 111L flavours?

111D Writes to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW (Reads
DVD-RAM)

111 Writes to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW & DVD-RAM

111L same as 111 with also bitsetting and LabelFlash.

111D costs less than 111 and that less than 111L

You can buy a 111D and crossflash it to become a 111 or 111L.

Thanks for that.

111 and 111D are the same price on Misco. Obviously, I'll attempt to
buy the 111.
