User log-in screen pops back up too soon

Hi, all,

[The log-in won't respond to "New Question", so I think this may be arriving
in the "General Comment" field]

Windows XP Professional SP 3.
I can't even go to the restroom, or take something out of the microwave
oven, without the PC popping back to the User Sign-In screen.
When I am the only individual in the house at the time, re-logging in all
the time gets tiresome.

Is there any mechanism to adjust the time lag, so that it takes longer than
5 min of keyboard inactivity to send Windows back to the User Sign-In screen?
Unsuccessful so far at locating same under Control Panel.

Appreciate your time.

Have you tried the following?

Go to Control Panel and double click Display.
In Display Properties, click on the Screen Saver tab.
On the Screen Saver page, remove the check mark from the box next to "On
resume, password protect". Note: Your computer may display "On resume, show
the Welcome screen".
Next, click on the Power button on the Screen Save page.
This should launch the Power Options dialog.
In Power Options, click on the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced page, remove the check mark from the box next to "Prompt for
password when computer resumes from standby".
Click OK twice to close both Control Panel applets.
Leave your computer unattended for a few minutes and see if you're still
presented with the Welcome screen.

Good luck
