user forgot login password

I've got a user with a laptop running xp pro. He forgot his login password
and the machine is set up for fast user switching. the login screen shows
one user name which is his and doesn't have an option for a hint. Any ideas
on how to resolve other than formatting?

Thanks!

Log into the hidden administrator account and reset his user password.
Ctrl-alt-del twice on the welcome screen. User is administrator, password is
blank(unless you set one up).

Althought both of the other suggestions are good if 1 you
know the admin password XP pro ask to set a password at
install so I am assuming that the PW is not blank, the
other is only good for Home edition actually it states
that if you do not have the recovery disk you are out of
luck (NOT TRUE)

Blankman,
go to http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
(OFFLINE registry editer)

you have 2 choices you can download either the diskette or
ISO image (BEST)and create a cd. after you create the cd
insert in the laptop and boot from it, it will ask you
several questions ussually these are defaults except for
when it asks if you want to scan for SCSI devices "SAY
NO". I have heard that this may hang the PC, I did not
have this issue.
Read the questions 1 is going to be if you want to change
a password say yes type in administrator xxx for the
password.
