User cannot log into machine using cached credentials

I have had several users complain about leaving the
office with their laptops and not being able to sign into
the laptops using cached credentials when they get home.
The individuals shut down their laptops before removing
them from the LAN, but when they boot up and try to sign
in, they get the following error message:
The System Cannot Log You On Now Because the Domain
<Domainname> Is Not Available
The only way to allow the user to log in is to bring the
machine back into the office, hook it to the LAN, and
they are able to log in successfully.

This only happens sporadically, most of the time the user
can successfully log into their machines while not
plugged into the LAN.

In searching for any info, an article about the above
error message pertains to problems with accessing after
the user is signed in, so this isn't any help to my
situation...

There is a online support article which gives information about how Cached
Logon works. Its is controlled by the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\Winlogon\

ValueName: CachedLogonsCount
Data Type: REG_SZ
Values: 0 - 50

Make sure it is not set to 0 thereby totally disabling Cached Logon.

Thanks

I have very similar issue to M0user,
In searching the knowledgebase i found q325572 which talks about this issue. It states to resolve to try using windows update to update the version of the rasapi32.dll, to 5.1.26.49 or higher. However, i found that updating windows has no such affect and am left with version 5.1.2600.1106. Nor, can i find any machine on our network that has any other version of this file. Any thoughts?
