What causes the creation of a folder called
<username>.000? A user has two profile folders on her
computer one named janedoe and the other named
janedoe.000. The janedoe folder contains all of the
users mail, favorites, desktop properties. How can that
one be accessed?

i have seen that when you have an account on a workgroup machine and then
join it to a domain and make an account with the same name. one folder is
the workgroup account the other is the domain account. you should be able
to get to it using the local admin account or the user's local account...
login to the local machine instead of the domain with the users old local
machine password. in either case you would have to change file permissions
to let the new domain user account access the files to copy them to the new
profile.
