My laptop, running windows XP Pro has crashed (motherboard problems due to a
power surge). I have saved the HDD, placed it in a case and tried to
transfer to my new computer. ISSUE: I cannot read my documents because I had
my user account password protrected (I know the password). Is there a way to
view and transfer my files to the new computer? Thank you.

Assuming you didn't encrypt the documents, just take ownership of the files.
