Suresh Lohar

Hi,

At present I'm using a P4 pentium 1.8GHz CPU and Intel 845G motherboard.

When I purchased this PC, I was supplied OEM CD of window XP by seller, but
XP was not preinstalled.

I my self installed XP after buying the PC. Later I activated at microsoft,
and being a genuine

Software, Microsoft send me a free CD of sp2 and I updated it.

Now, I want to change the motherboard 845G to 915GL, and CPU 1.8 GHz to
Intel 915 GHz (HT)

How can I use my old hard disk, can any one help me.

I also post a mail before, but then I thought my XP CD is not OEM but now I
came to know it's OEM.

Once before also I have make a fresh install and activated when I turn in
P-III to P4. but then in

year 2003, there was no service packs.

With Thanks, do reply please.

Sorry, but your OEM version of Windows XP is no
longer valid when you upgrade to a different motherboard.
You'll need to purchase a new copy of Windows XP if
you plan on upgrading the motherboard.

An OEM software license may not be transferred from and old machine
to a new machine-even if that machine is no longer in use. The OEM
license is tied to the machine on which it was originally installed and can't
be transferred to other machines.

Q. Can a PC with OEM Windows XP have its motherboard upgraded
and keep the same license? What if it was replaced because it was defective?

A. Generally, you may upgrade or replace all of the hardware components
on your computer and the end user may maintain
the license for the original Microsoft OEM operating system software,
with the exception of an upgrade or replacement of the
motherboard. An upgrade of the motherboard is considered to result in a
"new personal computer" to which Microsoft OEM operating
system software cannot be transferred from another computer. If the motherboard
is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a
defect, then a new computer has been created and the license of new operating system
software is required.
