USB's Do Not Work

Running WinXP Pro with SP2

I am running a DFI PS85-BL rev. B mobo with an Intel P4 and 1 Gb Ram and a
150 Gb Hdd with 20 Gb free.

Installed Intel USB System Check and indicated FULL support for USB.

The universal host controllers are running 5.1.2600.2180 drivers as is the
Std. Universal PCI to USB Host Controller, the Enhanced Host Controller is
running a 5.1.2600.0 driver.

I have the latest BIOS update as of 10/18/2004.

I have the latest drivers from DFI.

Any attempt to load in other drivers to usb results in a newer driver
notification.

Any attempt to rollback drivers results in no other driver notification.

I have run some software trackers which indicate newer USB drivers are
available - but do not exist.

The badwidth is 10 % and the power management is 500 mA.

This is a one day problem where the usb's were working fine then they quit
working, no software was downloaded.

Installed USBView and all the connections said nothing was connected.
I had a Microsoft Intel Mouse / USB installed on back panel.
I had Creative Media MUVO TV/FM mp3 player installed front panel.

There are no error messages - no device not recognized or yellow error
triangle or anything.

Unplug all USB devices.

Use Device Manager to delete all the USB hubs, ports and
controllers.

Reboot

The connect each USB one at a time and they should all be
working.

Don't install that MoVu crap thing!!!
I had similar problems with it on a customers computer.
Just plug it in with out Creative's drivers. If you look at the CD that came
with it, you'll see that they're for 98.
If you just plug it in XP it will just show up as a new drive in My
Computer. Just drag & drop your songs into the relevent folders etc.
See how that goes.
ps. Watch the kids because they'll re-install it & corrupt everything once
again. (Hide the CD)
I know from experience.......... but I get paid to fix it each time so I
don;t really care either!!!

I have removed and rebooted system with usb's in and then with the same usb
sources removed-there was no difference. WinXP rebooted and reloaded the
drivers for hosts and enhanced. WinXP still does not recognize anything
plugged ionto the ports.

I also have a usb optical mouse that will not work in the usb, I have to use
a usb/serial connector for it to work. The mouse will only work that way and
will not work in any usb port. Will try the creative removal then plug in the
mp3 player. Thx.

Of course USB might be turned off in the BIOS but it can't be unless someone
did it. Starting to look like motherboard damage to me.
There is a registry hack to turn on auto detection of USB items. I'll see if
I can find reference to it.
