USB Wireless Network

Glen Corlin

Hello all. I posted this last week and either missed the response or didn't
get one, so I'm trying again.
I have a USB DSL modem. Is it possible to create a wireless
network with just a USB connection? While both my computers have 10/100 ENet
cards, my modem is only USB. Can I simply se a USB to Ethernet plug? Can
some one point me to a place that would give me clear instructions on all
the hard/software I would need, and how to go about doing this?
Many thanks!

depending on who you're ISP is, some do not allow Internet Connection Sharing,
I setup two machine, one upstairs, one down both with usb wireless adaptors and
set them both into ad-hoc mode. This allowed me to setup a simple network and
then I used the Internet Connection Sharing wizard, that's it. Though a friend
of mine uses AOL and was unable to do this, he had to buy a wireless router

You can always search Google Groups for your name and you'll find your
previous postings. That said, the dsl modem having a usb connection is
irrelevant. Ethernet is certainly better, but since you have usb this
is not an issue. You need to purchase a dsl/cable wireless router,
making sure that the router has a usb port for your dsl modem. The
router will have a wired component, too. You will attach the router to
your computer with cat5e ethernet cable from the computer's nic to one
of the router's ethernet ports. This cable is usually included in the
router kit. The router will then connect to the dsl modem through the
usb port. You may need to get an extra usb cable for this. There are
quite a few brands of routers available - Linksys and Netgear are two.
Just make sure that whatever you buy has a usb connection for your dsl
modem. The router will come with instructions, and here are some
additional links:
