USB vs MPS hal issue

Howdy,

I have a fairly strange problem with the USB support on my device. I
have two symptoms, usb 1.1 devices will not work correctly in two of
eight usb ports. The second symptom is a USB security dongle that
refuses to work in those two ports as well (aladdin hasp key).

These symptoms do not occur under XP Pro, which tells me my bios settings
and hardware are not the problem.

I discovered that if I swapped the MPS Hal with the Standard PC Hal,
those issues went away. That is the only change I needed to make to my
configuration to correct the issue.

The MPS hal is being used by XP Pro which confuses the issue for me a
little. I am hoping there is a component associated with the MPS hal
that I might be missing, or someone who might have seen something similar
to this?

We do not want to change out the hal if at all possible so if anyone has
any suggestions I would really appreciate hearing them.

Thanks!!

Interesting. Do you have drivers for the USB chipset or chipset in

I do have an update for this issue. I am working with an ITOX G4G100-N
motherboard and have all the USB chipset drivers for it. We did some more
regression testing and discovered that we were mistaken about it working
under XP Pro, we had the same isssues there. That changed the problem's
characterization quite significantly and gave us more options to test.

We found that disabling the parallel port via the bios resolves the issue.
We do not actually use the parallel port so that will suit our needs,
though I do intend to track this further. I suspect it is some kind of
conflict with the interupt or the IO Address used by the parallel port. If
I understand things correctly the MPS hal uses the APIC to assign all that
stuff so I don't know why we are running into this odd behavior.

Thanks again!
