troubles began after installation of broadband with usb modem. Everything worked fine for a week, then one computer did not boot. after liitle bit of troublehooting i finally got the computer to boot when usb modem was unplugged. I then tried to reinstall the modem but XP did not detect it, In Device Manager there were no USB controllers or Root Hub listed. I then went and checked Bios where usb was now disabled, i enabled it and restarted my computer only to discover the blue screen of death. will not boot from last known good configuration or safe mode. Tried reinstalling OS, same problem still exists computer does not like usb enabled in bio

any suggestions please!!!

One of the problems I had with a USB
device is that when the USB cable is
plugged into the USB connector it brings
up a USB to Serial converter along with
a port number. The device was also when
set up/installed placed in the modems
box with a port number. These two ports
must be the same/agree. They may agree
when set up, but when you remove the USB
cable from the USB connector the USB/Serial
converter goes away and only returns when
the cable is reinserted. Unfortunately when
the converter returns it comes up with another
port number which may be different than the
one in the modem box. Systems>Hardware>
Devices>Ports LPT and Com. This is in
regards to XP-Pro. Luck

Try this

Go into Device Manager and remove the USB drivers etc

Remove all USB connections from your puter

Restart with USB enabled in bios
Boot into Safemode right away

If there is no issues boot up Normally
If it works your laughing because WXP will detect it and install it automatically probably.
