USB serial converter

I need to connect my laptop to a unit on the machines that
we make. The connection works fine with a laptop that has
a "standard" serial connector but I can not get my USB
port to work with it. I used a USB-Serial converter but I
am still having problems. The system requires connection
from COM1 to COM1 and my USB is coming up on COM3, not
sure if this is the problem. HELP

Try disabling the physical COM ports on your laptop via the BIOS. This
*may* allow the USB driver to map down to COM 1.
