USB sees my flash drive, How does It work

Simple question I hope.
A USB flashdrive in XP is auto recognized as a flash drive.
A USB Floppy drive is auto regognized as a floppy drive.
Is there a way my PDA on a USB cable can be seen by the OS as just a
Flash card reader instead of trying to find active sync on any PC I
connect it to?
I would love to have a setting I could change on my WM5 device that
would let me decide how a computer sees the device.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Probably not since the data is hard coded into the USB device.
