USB root hub missing

Just two things...

1. Use regedt32 instead of regedit. Select the key you want to delete
and change the permissions for this key (Security / Permissions and in
Everybody check "Allow total control"). Now you can delete any key (in
Windows 2000), in Windows XP select the key, right click and change
permissions.

Ahh, ok. I did try using regedt32, but didn't see the permissions options.
Cheers!
2. I have tested the steps you told me and when restarted, W2K only
regonized the Intel PCI to USB host controller, nothing about USB Root
Hub (remains missing).

Thats really odd. I'm surprised that it says "Intel PCI to USB host
controller" I'd have expected "Standard OpenHCD PCI to USB Host Controller"
is it possible to install that driver? (or "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB
Host Controller" for USB 2, but that will require SP4)

Hi, I'm back.

;)

Just to say I have solved the problem with the "Missing USB Root Hub"
in device manager.

The "guilty" in this issue was an HP driver I installed in order to
solve a problem with an USB HP 6200c scanner. This "driver" addded an
entry in the registry that was blocking Windows 2000 to detect the USB
root hub. By reading an article in Microsoft KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;270008

I was thinking... how about removing the UpperFilter in the key of USB
Host controller? Well, as soon as I removed this key (that was
pointing to the HP driver named HPUSBFD) and restarted the computer,
the USB root hub was detected again and all devices are working very
well.

Well, I am very happy with this. I thought this could be a problem
related with Windows 2000 and / or Asus P2B-S motherboard but no,
Windows only told me that cannot load the driver because, effectively,
the driver was not present.

I am posting this explanation in order to help someone in the same
situation that cannot find any solution. Thanks again for the help.

Regards,

Excellent, I was fairly sure it was a software problem. Glad it's working
now.
