usb ports not available in printer driver

xp sp2, usb ports and devices all working correctly, known good cable, same
driver working correctly on sister computer with same os/rev, known good
printer, printer install works, usb printer detected, usb printer installed
and listed in device manager but usb ports are not an available option in the
list of available ports in the printer control panel. Have re-installed the
driver, have unplugged and replugged the device, have tried new cable and
different printer. Ideas?

Try uninstalling ALL the USB ports from Device Manager. Reboot the PC.
Windows should refind and reinstall the USB ports on starting up. Then
reinstall the printer, but make sure you do it correctly.

Thanks Cari but already tried that too. I did however in the last 3 hours
solve the problem. The driver on the file server was corrupt. Downloaded a
new driver and back in business. Thanks for spending the time to help me with
the problem. People like you are part of why it is cool to work in IT.
