USB not picking up Cannon Printer

Hey guys, I recently had a problem installing a mouse that involved software
missing and now this is just the opposite! .. For some reason my USB device
isn't even recognizing the printer as hardware.. I've installed all the
software..gone through the troubleshoot (or what the Cannon manual
recommended) and still nothing.. I've used 2 different usb cords one of which
worked perfectly on another computer so I know it's not a cord problem.. when
I plug the cord into the USB I get the "doesn't recognize hardware" sound but
nothing pops up to let me know it's plugged in (aka doesn't seem to recognize
my printer). I've tested the printer and it works just fine.. I think my USB
ports just have an odd problem of not recognizing new hardware - at least in
this case. I have a Cannon Pixma MP450.. Any help would be great...

Did you try uninstalling the USB ports and rebooting and letting XP
reinstall the correct drivers for them?

I don't know how to uninstal or reboot them .. I almost don't trust my
machine to even pick it up and instal drivers since it's been having trouble
recognizing alot of things.. but if there's a page or troubleshoot that shows
me how to reboot em.. that would be great..where can I go to find that? Danke

Right click on My Computer and select Properties. On the Hardware Tab,
click on Device Manager. Scroll down and you will find the USB entries.
