USB multi card reader freezes my computer

I have 4 USB 2 ports on my computer they all run all of my other USB
components. ie cell phone, game controler, Blue tooth, ect. but when I plug
my card reader it freezes my computer. Ctrl Alt Del won't work. The only way
I can get it going again is to force a shutdown by holding the power button
and reboot. I thought I might have a bad card reader os I bought another one
and it does the same thing. One is a lexar media and the other is an eFilm.

Any ideas would be welcome.

How do you connect the card reader? By itself or with all the "other"
USB device also connected?

I have tried it both ways. With the others conected and by it's self.

You can try a powered USB hub. These type of hubs usually have an
additional power supply to add more power over the USB ports.

I really don't think it's a power problem. Any other thoughts? Iv'e tried it
with and without a card in the reader. Always the same result. The computer
locks up and I have to reboot.

Look in the BIOS an make sure that USB is not set in the BOOT sequence.
