USB mouse works plugged into the PC, not plugged into a USB hub.

I didn't get any reaction to this under the Dell community newsgroup, so
I'll try here.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1100 under WinXP Home SP2.

I want to have both the mouse and touchpad available. I get them both if
the mouse is plugged directly into a USB port on the computer. I get only
the touchpad if the mouse is plugged into a Belkin 4-port powered root hub.

Okay, I use the method that works, but I'm looking for comments on why it
doesn't work through the hub.

But do you get the mouse if the touchpad is not connected to the hub?

Same problem here, only with a Targus hub. I solved my
problem by installing a 2nd hub (I now have 3 hubs), and I
have my usb Infrared mouse in one hub, my touchpad in a
different hub.

Not the same brand, but a suggestion.

Why all the usb hubs? Because I decided awhile back to go
usb all the way.

Joystick - usb
2500 Mb Zip drive - usb
web cam - usb
external CD burner - usb
external hdd - usb

And I am now using 2 hubs.

Good luck!

How do you propose that the built-in touchpad be connected to the
external USB hub?
