USB Mouse keeps turning off

Hi, hope you can help. We have a USB Microsoft laser (wheel free) mouse -
just the basic one. About every day the mouse deactivates, the light goes
off, and it is lost from the computer device manager.

At first this could always be recreated by docking a USB Smartphone with
ActiveSync 4.1, but now it happens at other times too.

We have tried different USB ports, and a PCI USB hub, but it still occurs.
Have also tried removing the USB hubs from device manager, and auto-adding
them again, but still no change.
We have also replaced the mouse!

What could cause this, if it's not the mouse, not the mainboard hub, and not
the PCI hub?

Try checking DeviceManager...
devmgmt.msc

Open all under USB, and in properties for everything there, on power
management tab, uncheck "Allow computer to turn off..."

Thanks, they were indeed set to turn off, so hopefully that will improve
matters no end!

Out of interest, why does the computer turn the mouse off at all, and even
then why doesn't it turn it back on? Surely MS would have thought that one
through :-S
