USB Game Controller Problem

I have a weird problem with my Logitech Wingman Attack 2 joystick. After a
few weeks use the buttons and direction controls stopped working one after
another. Plugging it into a different USB port solved the problem until the
same thing happened again. I am now on my last USB port, so I could do with
some help in solving this problem,

I am using Windows XP Home on an AMD Athlon 2100+ with lots of Ram and hard
disk space

Is it possible that changing ports causes a new copy of the driver to be
installed? Perhaps you could see if logitech have a driver update for the
Wingman or force re-install the driver?

I think this is probably correct. I have had problems with my CD and DVD
drives which have been solved (perhaps temporarily) by uninstalling the
drive in device manager, and forcing Windows to recognize them as new on
rebooting. However, I cannot find my joystick in device manager to try the
same trick. I will try what you suggest

I have a USB game controller but I have it connected to my Video Card
and it works just fine. :)
