Hi
Wonder if anyone can help.

A friend has just purchase a 4gb usb flash pen drive but for some reason
we can't *see* it or find it on his computer, does not show up in *my
computer*.

When you plug it into the usb port you get the *dong/dong sound as you
normally do when connecting a external drive to the usb port and the end
of the flash drive flashes as it should.

I have tried it on my own computer and all's fine, appears in *my computer*
as soon as it's pluged in .Also ok on his son's computer.

Friend does have a usb 160gb external HD that he uses and when thats
pluged into usb port all's fine and shows up in *my computer*.

It's ust the Sandisk cruzer micro pen drive that does not work.

His computer is a Acer laptop ,running XP.

Anyone please.

Hi Barry.
Rt/click My computer.
Click Manage.
Click Disk Management.
See if the pen shows up there.
If it does, assign it a drive letter, and Format it.

Then you`ll be good to go.

In Disk Management, Right-Click on the drive and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths".

And the sandisk.com/support website says to do what considering the symptoms
and the specific sandisk hardware you stated?

I've put together some known reasons for external drives not
being shown in the Windwos Explorer:

THANKS MEERKAT................
It worked for me to with a slightlydifferent situation.

I have a multiport memory card adapter. It would show only 3 of 4
ports. The 4 ports did show up on my laptop and it worked there.

When I put an SD card in it worked, but a CF card did not. When I
looked into the management utility it did appear but without a drive
letter. After adding it it works fine.

the question now is why did it do this - IE show only 3 of the 4 ports
- or only assign 3 drive letters to a 4 "drive" device????
