usb drive always does not do want I want it to do

Hi everybody,

Whenever I plug in my usb external hard drive into dads computer it
always starts to read all the files and I always click cancel. I then
get a window asking me what I want to do, and I always click nothing
and then OK. Sometimes there is a box down the bottom that says
"Always do this for this drive", and when it is there I tick the box,
sometimes it is and sometimes it isnt. But it still always does it.
Can I make it stop doing that? I like to just open windows explorer
and play music from there.

Thanks from Megan

Install TweakUI.

TweakUI > My Computer > Autoplay > Types > Enable Autoplay for removable
drives > untick.

Since it's your dad's computer don't screw with the Autoplay settings. He
may not like that. Just hold the shift key down for a while as you connect
your USB hard drive. That will stop the autoplay. Then you can use
Explorer as you indicated.

OOPS, i already done it. He doesnt know anyway.
If something goes wrong I have written to hold the shift key in my
diary for next time. That is easier I think.
Thanks,
Megan
