USB Device Drivers not loading

Sean

I cannot load any digital media via SanDisk Imagemate 8 in
1, Olympus C5050 Zoom digital camera or Fujifilm smart
card reader. Windows XP home gets hung up trying to
load "Generic Storage Device USB Device". Error message
says the filename, syntax...so on error and it cannot
install the hardware. I go out to Device manager and
under disk drives the it is highlighted with an
exclamation mark. Drilling into it further, the shows
that no driver are loaded. But I cannot find or load any
such drivers. Anyone have any ideas to help resolve the
isssue?

I am also having the same problems with all my USB
applications including my PocketPc with ActiveSync and my
Canon Scanner. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The camara should have come with a software disc
containing the drivers needed.

Card readers noramlly don't windows is noramlly good at
seeing and installing them.

Make sure you have all windows updates that deal with usb
issues, and any updated software from Makers website.
Same with camara.

Then Uninstall all camara software and try again, without
installing software, just plug in the camara some times
this works, if it doesn't cancel the install and load
disc then try again.

Have you installed any windows updates recently? Or
anything that might cause this, like product support
updates?

When you say it gets hung up, do you mean that the Hardware Installation
wizard gives you the error message? When you reboot does it keep trying to
install it as though it is finding a new device each time?
If so, you might want to try this, if you feel comfortable with editing the
registry with regedit.
***Make sure you back up the registry, just in case.***
This should work for the Olympus Camera, since I happen to have one. My 6-1
card reader uses the same key, and although I didn't have a problem with
mine, this might solve that problem, too.

This solution was posted on http:\\forums.techguy.org in response to my
request for help in this matter.
This solution worked for me. However, I didn't have LowerFilters in
0000 and 0001, which I was told isn't unusual.

actually is "BFC1")

1. Open the Registry Editor. (Click Start and Run regedit.exe)

2. Go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Right click the above key, choose Export and save the file as backup.reg.

4. Delete the LowerFilters value in the right panel. (NOTE: Under the key,
there
are also some sub keys such as 0000, 0001. Please double click them and
delete the
LowerFilters value.)

5. Restart the computer.
