USB Delayed-Write errors

I have just performed a clean install of Windows XP Prof SP2.

I have an exteranl 500GB Lacie disk (USB)

Prior to performing the clean install, the disk was working perfectly.
Now I am getting LOTS of delayed write errors and the drive can not be
formatted.

If I plug the disk into my Laptop, then it works perfectly.

It seems that a complete reinstall of the OS has either installed the
incorrect drivers or got some settings messed up.

Any idea how to resolve this problem please?

After the clean install, was the USB external hard drive
re-registered for the system? That is, was it renumerated
through Disk Management?

You don't mention what computer/motherboard you have.
Probably you need to reinstall the proper drivers package for the mobo.

It's an intel motherboard D875PBZ and I have installed the only drivers from
their website for this board (chipset drivers)

Thanks I had already found the bustrace info and this describes the problem

Did you format the external drive as NTFS or FAT32? I'm taking a
survey.

There are some not-that-old mobos with crappy USB2 chips. You might
find out by searching the Intel web site for tech support notes for
your mobo.

I found this when someone showed me a Gateway machine bought about Jan
2004 that couldn't print to a new HP USB2 laser printer. The techq
support sites for Gateway, HP and Intel all agreed; bad USB2.

USB PCI card fixed the problem and it's working fine.

Well, I've now foudn the culprit ... it the software for the logitech camera
that is also attached to the USB bus.

Without the logitec software the drive work, install the software and the
drive fails !

I now have a support request into logitech.

One of those good news/bad news deals, huh? At least you found the root of
the problem. Thanks for posting your findings as it may help someone else
dealing with the same problem.
