usb copying problem

hi! i have a hp pavilion dv9000 laptop with vista home premium. recently i
noticed that when i try to copy files on an usb drive, the process takes very
long time to finish, for example a folder with 400 mb was transerfing for 55
minutes and the transfer rate was falling from second to second. on another
computer with windows xp the transfer was finished in five minutes or so. i
could swear that a week ago the transfer rate wasn't so slow. thank you for
the answer.

hi again.
i tried all the updates you sent me, however I still can't install the
KB938979 install(not the right system it says?), i did manage to install the
kb941649 update. now the transfer rate is slightly faster but still only
673kb/s and it copies the files 25 minutes to usb key intead of 55.

Well, how big is the file you are copying from the USB device? I wouldn't
guarantee spectacular speeds copying from a USB thumbdrive or external, the
throughput tends to fluctuate.

hi!
it doesn't matter how big the file is. the transfer rate is always about 600
kb/s whether the file is 30mb, 400 mb or 1 gb. this problem occured somewhere
in this week, as i didn't have the problem in the past. the usb key is from
sony USM2GJ, and it is very fast on other computers. i don't need spectacular
speeds, i just want that the transfer rate is normal, as i can download files
from the internet faster than copy files to usb drives.
