usb autodetect not working

I have a Windows XP and I'm trying to install new
hardware using usb port.

The system don't autodetect any new hardware that I'm
trying to install using any of the available 4 usb ports.

I have checked through admin tools and services that the
usb controller in on automatic mode. According to device
manager, the usb root hub and open host controllers are
working properly, but I cannot get anything installed and
detected. I've now tried to install a digital camera, MP3
player and a printer through USB's and nothing works.

What else should I check or what could be wrong?

Do you have the latest USB drivers for your System and SP1 for WinXP. Also check in Windows Update, I seem to remember a new Patch for USB.
