USB and drive letters

I have been searching but have not found an answer so in the hopes of someone
being able to help me, here is my question.

How can I get Windows to stop changing drive letters everytime a usb storage
device is connected? I mean, it takes letters that are already assigned and
uses them. I can be on a network with several network shares mounted and once
I plug the USB drive, one of the existing drive letters is used for the new
drive, this causes problems such as with applications that access resources
in the replaced drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Take a look 9 posts under this one. Your solution may be there.

Please note that what *you* see as being nine posts under this one is not
what everyone sees. It depends greatly on what newsserver you use, as well
as in what order you have messages sorted in your newsreader.

Well, Excuuuuuuse me!

I didn't mean my post as in insult, or to attack you in any way. My only
intent was to be educational, so that for the future you understand that it
is not generally helpful to refer to a post as being in a particular
position in the list *you* are looking at.

If you took at as an in insult, then my apologies . Again, it was not my
intent.
