USB 2.0 drive not recognized

My USB 2.0 drive will show up in the device manager as a disk drive. It will
not however show up in the disk management console. The computer correctly
recognizes it as a mass storage device, but not as a physical drive.

You could/can boot to xp cd,recovery,select 1 for C: Press enter key for
password,type:DiskPart In DiskPart,highlite the drive,create a
partition,press
ESC key,type:FORMAT D: /FS:ntfs D: being youre hd,type:EXIT When thru.
